I'm Baaaackkkkk!!!

Okay so I know that today is supposed to be my Wednesday tour of my home but I will have to get back to that later because to be frank my house is a pit and I just am not prepared for that today. So instead I thought I would share what has been going on and a few pictures of the ice storm.

I guess I will start with not this last Monday, but the one before that...on Mondays and Tuesdays I drive about an hour and 15 minutes to my home town to cut hair (I choose to drive there to work because my mom and Nolan's mom can watch the kiddos for me. I usually drive Monday morning stay over night and drive back when I'm done on Tuesday.)

Anyhoo, the ice storm hit Monday night while me and the kids were asleep at Nolan's parents. We woke up Tuesday still with electricity but it was too icy to go to work or to go home. All that morning the lights flickered but it finally went out around 2:00 p.m. Luckily they have a really great fire and we were able to stay warm. However everything in their house is electric to we had no hot water or stove. Luckily my father-in-law works in a place that has super generators and showers so we were able to get cleaned up there.

By Thursday Nolan said we had electricity so I loaded up the kids and came home, but unfortunately by the time I got home it had gone out again. We slept that night all 4 of us in our bed with about 10 blankets on the bed and I made the baby sleep with a stocking cap on. It was super cold!

The next day we went to the school where Nolan coaches and hung out there, did some laundry, and showered (it had electricity but no internet...it was torture!). That evening we decided to drive back to our home town and stay there because his parents had gotten electricity back (but again their cable got knocked out so no internet!).

Saturday was Ruthie's birthday, she's the Big 1! We had a party for her at Nolan's parents (I'll post about it tomorrow).

Sunday we drove to Tulsa with my family to see my niece be baptized. It was such a blessing and we are super excited about her decision! I was able to check my comments and to leave a few on some of your blogs, but that was about all there was time for.

Nolan drove home Sunday night to no electricity, while the kids and I stayed behind for me to work Monday and Tuesday. We went to my parents to stay they finally got electricity Sunday, but alas, no internet (what was the deal?!). We are finally all at home, with electricity (we got it back Monday night).

It has been quite the ordeal. I know many that lost trees. My parents had a tree come through their dining room window, my husband's grandparents lost half their deck to an uprooted tree, and many others that have roof damage and car damage. We lost all 4 trees in our yard and had one take out our trampoline. My brother and his family are still without electricity.

The beginning of a very long clean up process...

However, through this storm I have seen God's hand at work...acts of kindness, generosity, and so much more. And even with the distruction that the ice caused it was still so beautiful, and such a blessing to behold. I am so thankful for family that shared their home and food with us so that we could be warm, and I am super thankful for the many men and women that are working so hard to get everyone's power back to them. I am also so thankful for our safety.

So it has been an eventful week to say the least. I am happy to be back, and I missed everyone!

(Sorry this is so long. I promise no more like it - for a while anyway!)

Oh my gosh! What an ordeal! I'm so glad you were all safe and (kind of) warm. I'm sorry you were hit so hard, though (not that it was my fault or anything..lol).

I'm just curious...whereabouts do you live? I live in Tulsa. Wasn't the weather Sunday amazing?! Especially after an ice storm.

Take care ~AnNicole

Each day as I saw the ice left over on the roads and driveways I would say a prayer for you. So thankful that you are home with electricity now. I sure have missed reading your blog. The pictures are so pretty.

Oh Kasey! How horrible for your parents and everyone else who saw so much damage! And those without electricity. I am happy you are all safe and home!

I too know how some places look like a war zone! NWA was hit really hard with the ice storm!
Glad everything is okay!

Sometimes we take things for granted and don't realize it until you can't take a shower, or have heat, etc.

I'll be back soon!

Glad you are back home safe and warm! I was only without power for 3 days. My mom has been out for 9 days. I don't ever remember NWA being like this!

Welcome back, Kasey! I'm so glad that you are home safe and sound and beginning to get back into your usual routine. I thought it was great that you still checked in on me and leaving a couple of comments. I kept waiting for you to come back so I could stop by here to say hi! :) Looking forward to see what else you have to share soon...

It was a sight to behold! I was at my parent's home during the 2000 ice storm in Dierks. Rumor has it that our NW AR ice storm was worse! I wish that we had thought about getting the kiddos together during that week you were here (and just down the road!).

I too enjoyed seeing you Tues. night at church. Maybe sometime soon you can move closer and we can be together more often. I'm looking forward to Monday night. I'm so glad Rachel has a birthday to give us an excuse to get together!!!! :)
